Authorised Entry Only Signage
For many years the University has used a Hazardous Area Signage program. This signage identifies work areas that require restricted access. The signage is also used to communicate basic hazard information and local contact details to anyone seeking to access the space, e.g. visitors, contractors and emergency services workers. New staff and CIS contractors are introduced to this signage via the University's online induction packages.
The Hazardous Area Signage program has recently been reviewed. The program will continue, but has been renamed Authorised Entry Only Signage and the procedures for obtaining the signage have changed.
Why has the signage program been reviewed?
Why has the name been changed?
The term "Hazardous Area" has a specific technical definition within the Australian Standards that relates specifically to potentially flammable or explosive gas atmospheres. If we continue to use the "Hazardous Area" terminology there is potential for confusion, particularly with contractors and emergency services workers.
Each faculty/school now has the capacity to independently create Authorised Entry Only Signage" using this MS Word template. The document Understanding Authorised Entry Only Signage (PDF) explains how to use and interpret the signage. Below are some basic instructions for updating your signage using the template.
Standard use of pictograms
The relevant hazard and precaution pictograms must only be applied when relevant to the specific facility/area. Unnecessary overuse of the pictograms will diminish the value of the signage. The pictograms used are derived from the Australian Standards. The use of non-standard additional pictograms is not permitted.
All Faculties, Schools and department need to start reviewing
and updating their "Authorised Entry Only Signage". All signage must be up-to-date
by the start of Semester 1, 2013. The completeness and quality of the
signage will be monitored as a part of the 2013 High Risk Audit Process.
